About United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is the country's official memorial to the six million Jews and millions of other victims murdered by Nazi Germany and its collaborators. Its Permanent Exhibition guides visitors chronologically through the rise of Nazism, the ghettos and camps, and liberation, using photographs, film, and personal artifacts, including a boxcar used to transport prisoners. Located just off the National Mall near the Washington Monument and Tidal Basin, the museum also offers "Daniel's Story," a child-friendly exhibit for younger visitors, and the Hall of Remembrance, a hexagonal space for reflection. Admission is always free, but free timed-entry tickets are required for the Permanent Exhibition, particularly important during the busy March–August season; a limited number of same-day tickets are released online each morning. Note that tickets for the current Permanent Exhibition will not be available during a major renovation beginning January 2027.
