About Union Station
Union Station is Washington, DC's main train station, a Beaux-Arts landmark completed in 1908 near the U.S. Capitol. Its soaring Main Hall, with gold-leaf coffered ceilings and grand marble columns, is a destination in its own right and has served presidents, dignitaries, and millions of daily commuters over more than a century. Beyond serving Amtrak, MARC, VRE, and the Metro's Red Line, Union Station houses dozens of retail shops, sit-down restaurants, and a food court, making it a convenient stop for a meal or souvenir shopping. Self-guided tours can be taken via a downloadable app since the station does not offer staffed guided tours. The station sits directly across the street from the Smithsonian's National Postal Museum, making the two easy to combine in one visit.
