About National Building Museum
The National Building Museum explores the history and impact of the built environment through exhibitions on architecture, engineering, construction, and design. Its home, the former Pension Building, features a spectacular Great Hall with some of the largest Corinthian columns in the world, a space that has hosted presidential inaugural balls since the 1880s. Exhibitions range from serious explorations of housing and infrastructure to family-friendly, large-scale interactive summer installations. The Great Hall and museum shop are free to visit at any time, while paid tickets are required for the exhibition galleries. The museum is located a few blocks from the National Mall near Judiciary Square, making it an easy add-on to a downtown itinerary.
