About Belvedere Castle
Calvert Vaux designed the schist-and-granite castle in 1869 as a viewing platform with no interior purpose. Restored in 2019, it now holds the Henry Luce Nature Observatory and the National Weather Service instruments that record the city's official readings. Its terraces look out over Turtle Pond, the Great Lawn and the Delacorte Theater.
