About Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark located on Biscayne Bay in Miami, Florida. This early 20th-century estate showcases a lavish mansion, inspired by Italian Renaissance villas, filled with European art and antiques. The property also features ten acres of formal gardens, a historic village, and diverse natural landscapes. The estate was built as the winter retreat of industrialist James Deering, constructed between 1914 and 1922. Deering's vision, brought to life by architect F. Burrall Hoffman, landscape architect Diego Suarez, and designer Paul Chalfin, aimed to create a Mediterranean-style paradise that evoked centuries of European design and horticulture. Today, Vizcaya is preserved as a testament to Miami's early 20th-century history and a center for cultural enrichment. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is open to visitors Wednesday through Monday, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and is closed on Tuesdays. Located at 3251 S Miami Ave, Miami, FL 33129, it offers a variety of experiences, from self-guided tours of the mansion and gardens to special exhibitions and educational programs. Further information and planning resources are available on their official website, vizcaya.org.
