About Wrigley Building

Standing majestically on Michigan Avenue, the Wrigley Building is an architectural gem composed of two towers connected by an open walkway at the third floor and an enclosed bridge at the 14th floor. Its striking white terra cotta facade is designed to reflect light, creating a shimmering appearance, and it features an ornate clock tower inspired by the Giralda tower in Seville, Spain. This landmark is a prominent fixture in the Chicago skyline, particularly when viewed from the Chicago River. Commissioned by chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr., construction began in 1920, with the south tower completed in 1921 and the north tower in 1924. It was one of the first office buildings in downtown Chicago north of the Chicago River, helping to spur development in what is now known as the Magnificent Mile. The building's design, by the firm Graham, Anderson, Probst & White, draws inspiration from Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, contributing to its unique character. While the Wrigley Building is primarily an office complex, its exterior is a major draw for visitors. You can admire its distinctive architecture from various vantage points along Michigan Avenue and the Chicago River. The building's ground floor sometimes hosts retail establishments, and the immediate surroundings offer excellent photo opportunities of both the building itself and the surrounding cityscape. It is accessible for external viewing at any time.
