About The Rookery Building
The Rookery Building, located in the heart of Chicago's Loop, is a celebrated example of early skyscraper design. This iconic structure is known for its blend of Romanesque, Moorish, and other architectural styles, culminating in a distinctive and elegant facade. Completed in 1888, the building was designed by Daniel Burnham and John Wellborn Root. Its most famous feature, the central light court, was later remodeled in 1905 by Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright's redesign introduced a sophisticated, luminous interior with intricate ornamental ironwork, marble, and gold leaf, transforming the space into a breathtaking architectural experience. Visitors can explore the magnificent lobby and light court during public hours. The building houses various offices, but its ground floor and central atrium are generally accessible for admiring its architectural splendor. It is easily reachable via public transportation in downtown Chicago.
