About National Museum of Mexican Art
The National Museum of Mexican Art is home to one of the most significant collections of Mexican art in the United States. Its diverse holdings span more than 3,600 years, from ancient Mesoamerican civilizations to contemporary works, encompassing painting, sculpture, folk art, textiles, and photography. The museum is dedicated to showcasing the richness and variety of Mexican artistic expression, offering visitors a deep dive into Mexican culture, heritage, and identity. Established in 1982 as the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum, it was the first Latino museum in the Midwest to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Its mission has always been to stimulate and preserve knowledge and appreciation of Mexican art and culture from both sides of the border. The museum is particularly renowned for its annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) exhibition, which draws visitors from around the world. To plan your visit, head to 1852 W 19th St, Chicago, IL 60608. The museum is generally open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday through Sunday, and is closed on Mondays.
