About Chicago Cultural Center
Housed in a stunning Beaux-Arts building, the Chicago Cultural Center serves as the nation's first free municipal cultural center, showcasing the vibrant arts and culture scene of Chicago. It features art galleries, performance venues, and educational spaces, hosting hundreds of free programs annually, including concerts, dance performances, film screenings, lectures, and exhibitions. Originally built between 1893 and 1897 as the city's central public library, the building was designed by the architectural firm Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge. It is renowned for its magnificent architectural details, particularly its two stained-glass domes: the 38-foot diameter Tiffany dome, considered the largest Tiffany dome in the world, and the equally impressive dome in Preston Bradley Hall, made by the Healy & Millet firm. Visitors can explore the grand halls, admire the intricate mosaics and marble work, and attend a variety of cultural events. The center is conveniently located in the Loop, easily accessible by public transportation. Check the official website for a current schedule of events and exhibitions.
