About Baker Beach
Baker Beach is a scenic mile-long stretch of sand located on the San Francisco peninsula, just north of the Presidio and west of the Lincoln Park Golf Course. It is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, a federally managed park that preserves natural and cultural resources. The beach is known for its dramatic vistas, including unparalleled views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands, and the Pacific Ocean. Its rugged coastline features cypress trees and granite cliffs that rise above the sand, providing a picturesque backdrop. Historically, the beach was part of the military defenses of San Francisco, with Battery Chamberlain, a disappearing gun battery, still visible at its northern end. Visitors can access the beach via parking lots and trails, though the terrain can be uneven in places.
