About Columbus Circle

Laid out in 1905 around a 76-foot granite column topped by Gaetano Russo's statue of Columbus, the circle is the point from which all official distances to New York City are measured. Tiered fountains and benches ring the monument, with the Time Warner Center, the Museum of Arts and Design and the Merchants' Gate entrance to Central Park all a few steps away.
