About Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign
Designed by Betty Willis and funded in May 1959, this famous sign was erected by Western Neon. It is situated in the median at 5100 Las Vegas Boulevard South, near the former stone pillars of McCarran Field and across from the Bali Hai Golf Club. While commonly associated with the city, the sign, like much of the Strip, is technically located in Paradise, Nevada, approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) south of the Las Vegas city limits. The broader metropolitan area is generally referred to as Las Vegas.
