About Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge
The Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge is an arch bridge connecting Arizona and Nevada over the Colorado River. It is situated within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas. Opened in 2010, the bridge was a key part of the Hoover Dam Bypass project, which rerouted US 93 away from the dam top and improved safety by removing sharp curves. The bridge is jointly named after Mike O'Callaghan, a former Governor of Nevada, and Pat Tillman, an American football player and soldier. At 890 feet above the Colorado River, it stands as the highest road bridge in the United States and features the widest concrete arch in the Western Hemisphere. It was the first concrete-steel composite deck arch bridge constructed in the U.S.
